Position Title: Supported Independent Living - Direct Support Professional

Location: West Niagara and Surrounding Area

Position: Full-time, Permanent

Nature of Position:

To provide a variety of specialized person centered supports. The successful candidate will be responsible for their own caseload. Must have the ability to work with minimal supervision and demonstrate quick thinking and problem solving abilities.

Work Schedule:

This position offers a flexible schedule of 40 hours per week, which includes evenings and weekends. You will report to the Supported Independent Living & Transitions Program Manager

Compensation: $25.48-28.13/hour

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • The candidate(s) must have a relevant 2-year Community College Diploma or related University Degree or equivalent relevant experience. 
  • Police clearance with vulnerable sector screening.  
  • A valid G driver's license and insurable by the agencies insurance company. Must be able to use their personal vehicle for work purposes and have appropriate insurance
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to respond to individual needs and crisis situations in a calm, productive manner.
  • Well-developed organizational and communication skills are essential.
  • Strong financial skills.
  • Must be available to work days, evenings, sleep shifts, weekends, and must be committed to be available for call in shifts. The shifts need to be flexible depending on the individual needs.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

The Applicant(s) should be creative, take initiative, be resourceful, nonjudgmental and open minded.  Must be self-motivated, mature and a responsible person who is able to work independently with minimal supervision as well as be a team player and a role model. Must demonstrate the ability to build and maintain relationships with families, community partners, landlords, employers, volunteer placements etc. Through previous experience the candidate should have a good knowledge in a variety of areas including ODSP, the judicial system, aging and dementia, addictions, mental health, brain injury, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, behavioural challenges, nutrition and special dietary needs such as diabetes, youth, Long Term Care, Landlord and Tenant act etc.  

 

Must have a strong ability to deal with conflict resolution and diffusing potentially harmful or difficult situations independently.  Strong Computer skills in MS Office, e-mails, data base software (Share Vision), I Pads etc.
